Bamfield, a tiny resort hamlet nestled quietly in a protected inlet on the south shore of Barkley Sound, is best known for its superb salmon fishing adventures. This tiny fishing and harbour village, heavily populated by marine biologists, is a quiet, unassuming village where the love of the land and sea prevails.

Devon Transport Ltd. A Nanaimo company has agreed to purchase Lady Rose Marine Services and continue the ferry service from Port Alberni to remote communities along the Alberni Inlet and the west coast. Devon Transport Ltd. said the acquisition will allow the service to go on uninterrupted.
Can you drive to Bamfield?
Youbou / Lake Cowichan to Bamfield The roads are dusty but in good condition and the drive is beautiful, but please watch for logging trucks and it is advised that you pull over onto the side of the road when you see one coming. This drive takes approximately 2 ½ hours.
Is the road to Bamfield paved?
The money will see the 77-kilometres of bumpy, windy, gravel road between Bamfield and Port Alberni upgrades with a fresh new seal coat in 2022 and then 15 kilometres of the road will be paved in 2023. New safety barriers will also be installed in various locations and gravel work is expected to begin in April 2022.

In 2012 she was moored in Tofino at Jamie’s Whaling Station where she awaited restoration. Lady Rose was acquired by the Clayton family of Sechelt in September 2019 and she was relocated to the MacKenzie Marina in Sechelt soon thereafter.

This summer was my first time going to Keeha Beach, one of the most desired surfing spots on the island. The trail head is right in Bamfield, where you park and start walking through immediate lush forest. The trail is about 6km, and it took us less than an hour at a medium pace.

Brady’s Beach is a hilly 20 minute walk on gravel roads from the West Bamfield Government wharf. If you want to camp on the beach without kayaks, we’ve got you covered. We can load our boat full of your camping gear and supplies and drop you off at the beach.

Location: Bamfield is located in the heart of the Pacific Rim National Park on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, 56 miles (89 km) from Port Alberni and 77 miles (123 km) from Lake Cowichan. Bamfield is reached from either of two directions, both of which require several hours drive on gravel logging roads.
What is east Bamfield famous for?
East Bamfield is the northern terminus of the famed West Coast Trail, an arduous yet beautiful 75 kilometre (47 mile) journey that was once built to service in the rescue of shipwrecked seafarers. Interested day hikers can meander along the trail or Brady’s Beach on Bamfield’s west side and the sandy spans of Pachena Bay on the east side.
